Men and Women
Although most of the performers are men, women can also participate next to their role as member of the audience. This openness to women’s participation has shifted
over time, as in present times there is approval for women to perform and sing lines.
When there are prominent members of the community present in the party that is performing a Girayda, they are often called
upon to join and become a contestant. These community members can either be men or women, there is no difference. It is an expression of respect to call on these persons to join.
